My name is Andrew Philip Richard Cawood, but I go by Cawood or Coach Cawood. I was born in Southern Bulawayo in Rhodesia and grew up in Mhlambanyatsi, Swaziland. My father is the sole person responsible for my deep love for running and fitness. All I can ever remember is him racing every weekend, running every day and so I thought it was completely normal for people to always be running! I attended Usutu Forrest Primary School, where sports and athletics were compulsory. I competed as a bowler in cricket, a scrum-half in rugby, a mid-fielder in soccer, centre-half in mens field hockey, but my true love was in Track & Field and Cross Country.

I moved to the United States in 1992 and I started running at Alan C. Pope High School, in Marietta, GA. I competed at the 800m, 1,600m and 3,200m during my track & field season and then ran the 5km during the Cross Country season.  After 4 years of running I was recruited to run NCAA Division I Track & Field and Cross Country for The Citadel in Charleston S.C. Over the next four years I would log 9,671 miles and grab a 6th placed finish at The Southern Conference 8km Cross Country Championships, which is still the highest placing by any Citadel athlete in school history.

I have been coaching for 12 years and have been running for just over 26 years, raced in over 150 races, and have logged close to 35,000 total miles in my life time. I draw from my running experiences, running knowledge, and successes/failures to ensure that all athletes that I coach benefit from everything that I have learned.

I have always known from a very young age that I wanted to be a coach and have a deep desire to guide others and assist them in discovering a true love for running, and fitness. I also thoroughly enjoy driving and pushing my athletes to realize that with the right attitude, guidance and motivation that there truly are no boundaries...
