Triathlon 101 – Triathlon Basics
This 8 week course is designed to build your comfort level in all three disciplines – running, swimming and biking.  It will also cover other subjects including nutrition, transitions, basic bike maintenance… Geared to get you ready for the Capital View Triathlon on June 13th this class includes some time on the race course. 

Triathlon 101 – Swim Technique

Is your swimming limiting your triathlon success?  Whether you are signed up for the Ironman or contemplating your first triathlon in 2010 don’t let the swim get in your way.  This class is designed to create or improve swimming efficiency by focusing on the needs of the individual.  The goal is to give you the tools you need to improve your swimming.  This is done by working on the many aspects of efficient swimming in phases from body positioning to breathing and the key points in between.

Training for Trek 2010
This 6 week/12 class course starting June 1st will help you compete in or complete the 2010 Trekwomen Chicagoland Triathlon and is for the ladies only.   Two classes a week will cover subjects including nutrition, transitions, basic bike maintenance, and open water techniques while increasing your comfort level in all three disciplines – running, swimming and biking.   This is a great way to get ready in Wisconsin’s summer sunshine.

Masters Swimming

Take your swimming to the next level.  Harbor’s Masters Swimming Class is designed to increase your power, endurance, and confidence going into your next race.  Training with a group, knowledgeable on-deck coaching, and the varied, challenging workouts will help you achieve your goals while having fun.

Open Water Swimming
Get out into the open with Harbor’s safe and effective open water swim classes.  These classes are designed to teach open water techniques for race day comfort and speed.  Done in small groups and directed by an on-the-water instructor with an eye toward water quality, health and safety are the priority.

Derek Scheer, a USA Triathlon Certified Level I Coach and self described swim mechanic has been working with triathletes at Harbor Athletic Club for over 7 years.  He has helped triathletes reach their goals including over 30 Ironman finishers, Team Survivor of Madison’s triathlon group and hundreds of beginners through their first triathlons.  A high school swim coach, he has 10 NISCA High School All Americans, 5 WIAA state champions,and numerous All State swimmers.   He has also finished many of Wisconsin’s triathlons including Ironman Wisconsin, the Xterra Midwest Championships, and the Wisconsin Triathlon Series.  Derek is Red Cross Certified for CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.
