Coach Bob's formal training is in program management and adult learning theory. He is a USAT Certified Coach (Level I) and a Certified Spinning Instructor (13 years). Bob is a USAT Certified Marshal (Cat 2) and a WTC Certified Pro Marshal and has marshaled the pro field at the Ironman Triathlon World Championship the last three years as well as Ironman Wisconsin and the Racine Ironman 70.3.
Coach Bob has been a triathlon coach for over 10 years. Bob has coached Northwestern University's cycling and triathlon team and was the personal coach to three members of the National Collegiate Triathlon Champion US Naval Academy team. He has coached two pro/elite triathletes (both currently in military service). He has coached a person to a USAT National Duathlon Championship, Boston Marathon finishes and personal records, Ironman Triathlon World Championship personal records (100% of Coach Bob's athletes have PR'd in Kona for the Ironman distance of five athletes). Bob has has a good track record with Clydesdale and Athena athletes. Bob has three clients who tried out for NBC's Biggest Loser television show. Starting weights were: 506, 417, 403 and 316. Those individuals are now 200, 185, 165 and 196; NO surgery - all diet and exercise. Anything is possible when the athlete and coach are passionately after success together.
Bob is comes from an NCAA Division I Swimming and Water Polo background. Bob earned six varsity letters (didn't play water polo his junior and senior seasons) in college. He was an All-Big 8 Conference Swimmer. Bob did his first triathlon in 1986 where he had a rather difficult swim. Bob came back and won the race with outstanding bike and run legs passing the leader with a half mile to go taking the win in a surprising comeback. Bob is a veteran of five Ironman Triathlons (Kona, Canada, Great Floridian/USAT National Championship, Lake Placid, Wisconsin). He has competed in 40 1/2 Ironman or 70.3 races; including the USAT National Championship and the 70.3 World Championship.
Bob builds individual training plans using heart rate and power. He has formal training in power analysis. His clients are given Training Peaks accounts as part of signing up with Coach Bob.
