36 North Sprint Triathlon was founded and is managed by veteran triathletes that have a pure love for the sport. The race, which is held at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC is designed to be perfect for first-time triathletes as well as competitive for more seasoned racers.

This race was founded to maximize the race day experience for participants and their families. The race starts with a spectator-friendly pool swim in the beautiful outdoor pool at Tanglewood Park, followed by a scenic 12 mile bike ride, and finishes with a 5K course that offers both on-road and off-road running. At the finish line, the expo area offers plentiful activities for families and children, not to mention a nice cold brew and massage for participants. The post-race expo is bigger and better than you'd expect for a sprint triathlon.

Whether you're a first-timer and are anxious about your first race, or are a competitive triathlete and are adding 36 North Sprint Triathlon to your race schedule for 2013, 36 North offers a race experience like no other.

Come out and help us promote active and healthy lifestyles in the Winston-Salem area. All proceeds from the race will go to local organizations promoting health and fitness in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities.

Course Descriptions:

SWIM - 300 meters
This is a pool swim at the Peter S. Brunstetter Aquatics Center of Tanglewood Park. Each participant will be assigned a swim start time based on your estimated 100-meter swim time. It highly recommended that you submit an accurate swim time in order to limit congestion and crowding in the pool.

Not sure about your time? Jump in the pool and swim 100 meters and see what happens (by the way, most local pools are actually 100 yards, just add 10% to your time to convert to 100 meters). We will stagger the start times by 15 or 30 seconds depending on your swim speed to ensure plenty of room for everyone.

The below averages and times provide some guidance as to how to project how fast or slow you would swim 100 meters. These times are derived from the 2011 36 North Triathlon and are provided based on 100 meters.

Minutes & Seconds Per 100 Meters:
Average Swimmer: 2:08
Median Swimmer: 2:03
Fastest Swimmer: 1:10
Slowest Swimmer: 5:09
Top 10%: 1:34
25th Percentile: 1:46
75th Percentile: 2:19

BIKE - 20 K (12.4 miles)
The bike course is a one-loop format, and you will no longer have cycle on the left side of the road inside the park. Many thanks to Tanglewood Park and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Dept. for helping us to make these changes. All roads are open to vehicular traffic but there is usually very little and law enforcement will ensure safety at all intersections.

RUN - 5 K (3.1 miles)
The final stretch is a single loop mix of pavement and gravel trail within the park. Aid stations will be available every mile.
