You are invited to warm-up for the upcoming summer triathlon season! Every year on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the Bucyrus YMCA sponsors a sprint triathlon that ushers in the season for a fun-loving group of swimmers, bikers and runners. Some individuals compete as teams, other hardy souls complete the whole course and use the event as training. And we have a working theory that some folks come just for the home-baked cookies. But every competitor enjoys the encouragement and support true athletes bring each other. And we think the T shirts are cool!
Course Information:
Our annual Memorial Day weekend triathlon starts with a 500-yard swim in an indoor 6-lane pool with 2 competitors per lane. Seeding is based upon the estimated swim time from the entry forms. Next, the 12-mile bike route is on a fast, mostly flat loop on country roads and state routes. Helmets are required, and the route is not closed to traffic. Volunteers will aid bikers at each turn. The final leg will be a 5K run (flat, straight, blacktop, out and back) route on county roads with a water-stop at the midpoint. Refreshments will be provided, and an award ceremony will be held when the race is concluded.
