This is a challenging three-point sprint distance race held in picturesque Jo Daviess County. This popular event has been named one of the top 10? sprint triathlons in the U.S. by USA Triathlon (USAT).
The event features Age Group Competition, Real Time Results, and a Pre-Race Celebration, and a free Post Race Party and Awards Ceremony.
The Triathlon starts with a 660-yard swim in the clear, cool waters of Apple Canyon Lake, with a beach start and finish. Athletes are then tested by a
17.32-mile bike ride from the lake which takes them up and down the winding country roads of Jo Daviess County to Shenandoah Riding Center. To finish, competitors run 4.3 miles through the hills and hiking paths of The Galena Territory to the finish line at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. Registrants can also opt for the Duathlon, which starts with a 2-mile run in lieu of the swim portion. The duathletes then compete on the same bike and final run courses as the triathletes.
To Nixon Beach, Apple Canyon Lake from Galena:
From the intersection of N. Main & Meeker, turn right onto Stagecoach Trail. Drive east for approximately 12 miles. Turn right onto Pea Ridge Road.
Pea Ridge Road will turn into W. Apple Canyon Road. Turn left onto
S. Apple Canyon Road. Turn left onto Eisenhower Drive. Nixon Beach is
at the end of Eisenhower Drive.
To Nixon Beach, Apple Canyon Lake from Chicago:
Take I-90/94 west to Rockford. Take US Rte. 20 west from Rockford to
the Village of Woodbine. In Woodbine, turn right onto Scout Camp Road.
Turn left onto East Lake Road No. 3. Turn left onto S. Apple Canyon Road. Turn right on Eisenhower Drive. Nixon Beach is at the end of Eisenhower Drive.
