Tidewater Physical Therapy will host the inaugural Richmond Endurance Athlete Symposium and Expo on February 1, 2014 at The Westin Richmond from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.


Billed as a day of motivation and education, the symposium and expo will feature six international, national and local speakers, including triathlete Michellie Jones, coach Chris Carmichael, and cyclist Frankie Andreu.


Registration to attend the event is $25 in advance or $35 at the door.  Seating is limited and pre-registration is encouraged at www.RVAEnduranceSymposium.com


Continuing Education Unit credits are pending for USAT Coaches attending the symposium. 


Registration for coaches is $60. 


Proceeds from this event will benefit Richmond 2015 and The Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV).


Richmond 2015 is the organization that will bring top cyclists from around the world to Richmond to compete in the world cycling championships. BIAV is committed to advancing brain injury prevention, research, treatment and education and to improving the quality of life for all individuals impacted by brain injury.

Jones, an Australian triathlete with more than 175 wins, is referred by many as the best triathlete in the world, male or female. Period. Claiming numerous World Champion titles in Ironman, XTERRA and International Triathlon Union (ITU) racing, Jones was recently inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for having won the greatest number of ITU World Championships Medals in the history of the sport.


Carmichael is the founder and CEO of Carmichael Training Systems, a pioneering company in the endurance coaching industry. Through the past 13 years, CTS has worked with more than 10,000 amateur and professional athletes and was a member of the 1984 Olympic Team and the iconic 7-Eleven Pro Cycling Team.  Carmichael is the bestselling author of "The Time-Crunched Triathlete" and "The Time-Crunched Cyclist." Coach to the US Olympic Cycling Team in 1992 and 1996, Carmichael was named the US Olympic Committee Coach of the Year in 1999, inducted into the US Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2003, and was given a Lifetime Achievement Award from USA Cycling in 2004.


Andreu is one of the most popular and well-respected names in American professional cycling. He retired from racing at the end of 2000 after a 12-year professional career including the Tour de France nine times. His racing experience not only encompassed Grand Tours like the Tours of Spain and Giro d' Italia, but also included high placed finishes in World Cup events, World Championships, Spring Classics, and two Olympic Games: 1988 placing 8th and 1996 placing fourth.

Dr. Douglas Cutter MD., a Sports Medicine Physician with HCA Virginia, Medical Director of the Richmond Marathon since 2000, and former volunteer at the US Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs, CO.


Dr. Steven Reece MD., a Sports Medicine Physician with Advanced Orthopedics in Richmond, VA and Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. 


Dr. Marion Herring MD. an Orthopedic Surgeon with Advanced Orthopedics in Richmond VA is Board Certified in Sports Medicine, a USA Triathlon All American, and overall top 5 finisher in the Beach to Battleship Iron Distance.


Dr. Robert Wilder MD., a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UVA. 


Eric Magrun PT, DPT, is Board Certified in Orthopedics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists and practices with UVA Health Systems.
