Course Information:
Welcome to the Goa Triathlon, a team and individual event at Bambolim Beach, close to the state capital Panaji in India's picturesque seaside resort destination, Goa.
TEAM EVENT
Get together a team of a swimmer, a biker and a runner. Each does his or her own thing. If they do it well enough, they walk away with the grand prize.
INDIVIDUAL EVENT
If you are made of steel, do all three by your ownsome lonesome. This is a proper Olympic-length triathlon, the swimming is in the sea, not in some placid lake, and the biking and running route includes some trails and gradients.
SWIM
1.5km: Swimmers start from the beach, swim out 750m, around a prominent marker buoy or boat, and back to the beach.
BIKE
40km: Run to the road 200m from the beach. Do four laps of a 10km circuit Bambolim Beach - Dona Paula - Miramar - Dona Paula
RUN
10km: One lap of the above circuit. Grand finish on the beach.
SAFETY
All necessary safety arrangements: The Goa Yachting Association (GYA) will provide rescue boats, Drishti will provide trained lifeguards and Jet Skis, and there will be close cover kayak support along the entire swimming course.
There will be volunteers at every kilometre on the running / biking route. Rehydration / nutrition stations will be put up at every 2km. Vehicles with bike stands will pick up those unable to continue. A doctor will be in attendance at the beach and a 108 Ambulance will be on call.
Directions:
Bambolim Beach is 10km (6.3 miles) from the state capital Panaji, 35km (20 miles) from Goa's airport, and around the same distance from the state's main railway station, Madgaon. The race starts and ends outside the majestic Grand Hyatt Goa beach resort. Bambolim is the safest swimming beach in Goa.
