History:

T.R.A.I.L. (Transportation Recreational Alternatives In Louisiana) was created in 2005 by a small group of individuals working to develop the Bikeway Plan component for the Lafayette Metropolitan Organizations 2030 Transportation Plan.  Realizing that the extensive amount of work would be futile if there was not a mechanism that would be a catalyst to make certain the facilities we planned and designed would become a reality.  The group also recognized that limited recreational facilities around the Acadiana area was not limited to just cycling, but also for runners, walkers, and kayakers.  Whether active or passive the surrounding communities needed facilities that encouraged them to get outside, Experience their environment, gain more Education about their environment and health, have more opportunities for Exercise and better Enjoy their community.
