Course Information:

Swim - The races start from the beach with a 400 yard or half mile swim. The swim courses will be triangular shaped in Shadow Cliffs Lake marked by large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 68-74 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swims will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a cement path to the transition area located in the parking area.

Bike - The bike course is 8-miles (one lap) for the Super Sprint Triathlon and 16-miles (two laps) for the P-Town Triathlon. The bike course will exit Shadow Cliffs Regional Park and make a right turn on Stanley Blvd. The course will then make 4 more right turns, circling Shadow Cliffs Regional Park, and returning with a 5th right turn back into the park after either one or two laps. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run - The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 1 mile out-and-back course for the Super Sprint Triathlon and a 5K course on fire roads and trails within the park for the P-Town Triathlon. There will be two aid stations with water and electrolyte beverage, plus energy gels on the run course. One at the start of the run, and one at the turn-around point on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

Directions:

A haven for swimming and fishing can be found at Shadow Cliffs, only a mile from downtown Pleasanton on Stanley Boulevard.

Shadow Cliffs, formerly a gravel quarry, was donated to the Park District by Kaiser Industries and opened as a park in 1971. Its assessed value of $250,000 was used to obtain a matching grant for development of the park from the U.S. Bureau of Outdoor Recreation.

With this start, the Park District has developed a 266-acre park including an 80-acre lake and ample parking and picnic grounds. There are facilities for persons with disabilities.

Besides the main lake, Shadow Cliffs has an arroyo with a chain of smaller lakes and ponds. No swimming or boating is allowed here; the shady areas and quiet waters make for a peaceful retreat on hot summer days.

Other Info:

Expected water temperature for Shadow Cliffs Lake will be 72-76 degrees. Wetsuits are optional. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times.
