2014 will be our inaugural year for our KIDS TRIATHLON in Knoxville, Tennessee. We are thrilled to be adding more triathlon specific events for the future of the sport. This is a race where all the kids will be treated just like the pros; we will roll out all the Revolution3 Red Carpet treatment for all participants.
The race will take place on Saturday May 17, 2014 and will be beginner friendly for all kids.
The swim will take place at the Allen Jones Aquatic Center, this is the same place where the University of Tennessee Mens and Womens swim team practice and compete; it is known as one of the best and fastest pools in the country. The bike will be an out and back, starting on a slight downhill and then onto the flat out and back on Neyland Drive. The run will be a loop on sidewalks around the University of Tennessee Campus.
The swim will be indoors at the Allen Jones Aquatic Center. Athletes will snake swim, which means they will swim down on side of the lane, go under the lane rope and swim back in a different lane.
150 yard swim = 6 lengths of the pool
250 yard swim = 10 lengths of the pool
The bike will be an out and back for kids ages 6-9 and a two loop course for kids ages 10-13. All athletes will turn left out of transition and head down Andy Holt, which will then turn into Joe Johnson. Be ready because Joe Johnson is a slight downhill ride. At the bottom of the hill athletes will turn left onto Neyland Drive. They will ride down Neyland for a half of a mile before they turn around and head back home. Older kids will turn around for lap two right outside of transition.
The Run will be a .7 mile run for the 6-9 year old athletes and a 1.25 Mile run for the 10-13 year old athletes. Athletes will leave transition and cross Andy Holt to jump on the sidewalk. They will follow the sidewalk and turn right into the Student Aquatic Center Parking lot and then follow the sidewalk past the Tom Black Track. After the leave they track they will turn right onto Volunteer Blvd. For the younger kids they will stay on Volunteer Blvd until the hit the finish line right outside of Allen Jones Aquatic Center. The older kids will start their second loop by turning right onto UT Drive.
