EVENT OVERVIEW

The first Olympic and Half Distance Triathlons in the quaint Colorado town of Grand Lake.  This will be a challenge of strength and endurance on a gorgeous course, with breath taking views of three pristine lakes, the majestic purple mountains that are the Rockies and Wildlife that live amongst the locals.  It will quickly become your favorite race, for many reasons.  If you are first time triathlete and want to start on a Relay team, you can also chose either race to compete in with your friends.  The more the merrier!

On August 16, 2014 triathletes will race in one of the Highest triathlons in the Country, if not the World.  At 8400'+ This Colorado Triathlon is going to challenge each of its participants, and create lasting memories.

Grand Lake  is a warm and welcoming lakeside community that offers ample opportunities for outdoor recreation in a climate that is one of Colorados most appealing.  Bring your friends, family, come with your Tri club, this will be not only a great place to race, but an experience you will remember for years.

Course Information:

Swim in the largest natural body of water in Colorado! Grand Lake is one of three lakes nestled on the edge of the Rocky Mountain National Park. Water temps are cool, average in early August, (64+/- F) so bring your wetsuit!

Bike on Highway 34, or what is better known as Trail Ridge Rd., the longest, most continuous paved road in North America. A good portion of the road is closed 9 months out of the year. So biking on the road, aside from being in a triathlon, is a claim to fame all its own. The views will take your breath away if the altitude doesnt! 8400'+

Run up and along the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and see, in person, what others have only seen in pictures. The views alone may make you want to stop, but dont! You can go back after the race with your camera, itll still be there, I promise! Follow Trail Ridge Rd. back down to the county roads that wind through the quaint town, that is Grand Lake, and be ready for the roof top views you will see coming back down off the hills to town. Its not only a challenging, high altitude race, but a race that is a feast for the eyes

Directions:

The town sits at a mere 8400' above sea level, just past the well known ski resort of Winter Park.  (From Denver) Head West on I-70, to Exit 232, Empire/Granby 40 West, up the winding Berthoud Pass, through the town of Winter Park, Fraser, Granby and then head East on Highway 34 til you see the signs for Grand Lake.  If you hit a Guard gate for Rocky Mountain National Park, just turn around and head back a mile and youll be there.  You cant miss it really.  Its about 2 1/2 hours from Denver, a bit more from the airport, but a beautiful drive.
