Kern River Festival Sprint Triathlon : |
Triathlon : Bike 8.1 miles, Run 2.2 miles, Paddle 2.1 miles |
For the last forty years, in the rustic mountain-river town of Kernville, the Kern River Festival has celebrated whitewater sports. Each year the festival hosts competitions such as canoe/kayak slalom, downriver races, or freestyle competitions. This year, for the first time ever, a bike, run, paddle triathlon is added to the slate of events.
This non-traditional, informal triathlon is open to both teams and individuals (2 or 3 individuals) offering women's, men's and mixed classes. Those of you with competitive equipment, for example road bikes and/or slalom or downriver boats, can enter the 'Competitive' grouping. If your all about the fun and have less competitive equipment such as mountain bikes and recreational kayaks, enter in the 'Recreational' grouping. The biking segment is open to either road bikes or mountain bikes, and boaters may enter using any kayak (downriver, slalom, recreational, inflatable) or a stand-up paddle board. We have a grouping to fit everyone!
If you don't have whitewater experience, contact us and we'll try to match you with a paddler for a relay team OR rent an inflatable kayak (IKs are very user friendly for beginners). If you'd would like to participate on a team and need a partner(s), please contact us and we'll try to match you. All proceeds benefit The Kern Valley River Council a non-profit organization which supports riverine environments.
An awards ceremony immediately follows.
NOTE: the paddle segment of the course is a whitewater section of river and as such requires previously acquired whitewater skills.
