  • This sprint-distance event is perfect for beginners. More than half the participants at last years event were 1st-timers!
  • The Hawk-I-Tri is also a great warm-up for athletes from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana to start the 2008 triathlon season.
  • Beginners love the individual time-trial starts (less intimidating). Group starts available for more competitive entrants.

  • Swim 400 meters: Counterclockwise from north beach to south beach.
  • Average water temp is low 70s. Wetsuits allowed.

  • Bike 16 kilometers: Keyhole loop course on smooth, paved roads through farmland south of Michigan State University.

  • Run 5 kilometers: Paved path around beautiful Hawk Island Lake, with a rustic trail through scenic Scott Woods.

Hawk Island County Park features a beach and swimming area, spray park, community-built playground, a 112 mile paved pathway around the lake, stocked fishing, paddle and rowboat rental, beach house/snack bar, picnic grounds and shelters, boardwalks, fishing docks, sand volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits.
