2012 Nation’s Triathlon:
The 7th Annual Nation’s Triathlon to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place Sunday, September 9, 2012 in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. It features a course that winds through Washington, DC’s monument corridor in the shadow of the nation’s best known memorials and national treasures. This International Distance triathlon, sanctioned by the USAT, includes a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, 40k bike course through DC, and a 10k run through Washington, DC’s historical landmarks with a spectacular finish!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds research to help find better treatments and cures for blood cancer. Over its 60 year history, LLS has contributed to the discovery of innovative treatments for blood cancers, many of which are used to treat a wide variety of other cancers and diseases. The Nation’s Triathlon is more than just a race, it is a weekend full of events for athletes, spectators and volunteers. As race day approaches, additional information (like swim waves and the athlete guide) will be posted on the Athlete Services Platform.

The 2012 Nation's Triathlon course is one of the most spectacular and athlete friendly courses in the world winding past monuments, memorials and history through the Nation's Capital.
Swim:
The swim takes place in the scenic and calm Potomac River where you will swim past Arlington Cemetery and under the Memorial Bridge twice.
The swim start is next to the transition area and the finish line so family and friends can watch more of your race.
Bike:
The bike route is flat and fast winding past the Potomac River, the White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, United States Peace Institute, and Kennedy Center.
There is no bike course like it in the world.
Run:
The run route is a challenging and beautiful single-loop that takes competitors past the Tidal Basin, Jefferson Memorial, National Holocaust Memorial, US Mint, Haines Point and more. The finish line is adjacent to the transition area and swim start making it ideal for family and friends. The Finish Line Festival has live music, free food for athletes, free post-race athlete services and instant results printed for you right when you finish!

Race-within-a-Race
The Congressional Challenge, The Gryphon Technologies Military Challenge, The Tri Club Challenge, or The First Responders Challenge. You may only register for ONE race-within-a-race.
Age Group
Choose this type to compete solo in your age group. As an age group athlete you may also choose to participate, if you qualify, in one of four optional races-within-The Nation's Triathlon: The Congressional Challenge, The Gryphon Technologies Military Challenge, The Tri Club Challenge, or The First Responders Challenge. You may only sign up for ONE race-within-a-race.
Age Group Elite
Choose this type to compete at an elite level only. Age Group Elite competitors are not eligible for Age Group awards nor can they compete in any of the races-within-a-race. Men qualify with an International time of 2:15 or less. Women qualify with an International time of 2:30 or less.
AquaVelo
The AquaVelo category encompasses the swim and bike portions of the race. The race finishes at the transition area where the full distance competitors will continue on with the run.
Relay Team
Choose this type to compete as a team of two or three athletes, male, female or co-ed, with each athlete doing one leg of the race (swim, bike or run). As a team you may also choose to participate, if you qualify, in one of four optional races-within-The Nation's Triathlon: The Congressional Challenge, The Gryphon Technologies Military Challenge, The Tri Club Challenge, or The First Responders Challenge.
