2012 Watauga Lake Triathlon:
The Eighth Annual event will take place at 8:00am on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church.
This will be a low-key festive event with overall and age group awards, and a post-race barbecue.
Entry fees are $50 for individuals, $40 for collegiate, and $90 for relay teams through July 15.
The fees go up to $60/$50/$120 through August 10.
Day-of is $70/$60/$135.
All competitors (even if part of a relay team) must have a USAT license.
One-day licenses are available when registering.
Registration is capped at 250 individuals and/or teams so sign up now!

Course Info:

The swim will leave from the banks of a family farm. It will be a triangular couse, 1000 meters long.
The water temperature should be between 70-75 degrees.
USAT rules regarding wetsuits will appy.
Kayaks and Seadoos will be in the course area to monitor swimmers.
The bike ride will be a 35 kilometer loop with several good climbs, fast downhills, and rolling to flat terrain following the contour of the lake and beautiful Roan Creek.
This is an incredibly scenic ride and should be starting to show some good fall colors for the race.
The run will be an out-and-back course of 8 kilometers.
The course will be in a pastoral farm setting out to the main road, where it will follow the perimeter of the lake for a short distance before the turnaround and back to the finish area.

The Watauga Lake Triathlon was inspired by the picturesque countryside and pristine waters of Watauga Lake.
Watauga literally means "beautiful water" and it certainly holds true to its given name.
Watauga holds the distinction of being the highest reservoir (more than 1900 feet above sea level) in the Tennessee river system.
Surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest and flanked by the Appalachain Mountains, Watauga Reservoir is arguably the most scenic in the Tennessee River Watershed.
