Huntersville Sprint Triathlon : |
Triathlon : Swim 500 Meters, Bike 12.4 Miles, Run 3.1 Miles |
Birkdale Animal Hospital Kids Triathlon : Kids Race |
Triathlon : Distance Determined By Age |
Swim:
The event begins in typical fashion with the swim, a 500 yard pool swim in the beautiful Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics, one of the finest swimming facilities on the east coast and the venue for many high-level national swim meets. The aquatic center is set up to take advantage of the 50-meter pool using 20 lanes, each being 25 yards in length (for those swimmers in the crowd, the pool is set up "short course"). Participants snake their way across the pool, going up one lane and coming back in the next. Lane changes are made at the end of each lane, the advantage here being that participants are only swimming one direction in each lane. This makes passing people very easy. It is still important to submit an accurate 100 yard swim time when registering, this is required for registration. By submitting an accurate swim time you're seeding yourself correctly, which puts you in the water on race day surrounded by other participants who are comparable swimmers to you. Swim caps are not provided for pool swim events. If you would like to wear a swim cap, then be sure to bring your own.
The swim start process involves all the Open & Masters Open (this is the Elite category) participants going off first, followed by all the Age Groupers, Clydesdales, Masters Clydesdales, Athenas, and Relay Teams, followed by all the Novices and Masters Novices.
Bike:
The 20K bike course for the Huntersville Sprint Triathlon is a one-loop design. The course is best described as moderately hilly. The roads are mostly two-lane and will be open to vehicular traffic, but should be relatively light on race morning. The western half of this course will be familiar to participants who race in the Tri Latta Triathlon.
Run:
The 5K run course is comprised of an out and back on roads. It loops around Lake Norman Charter School.
From Charlotte: Take I-77North to exit 18, head West on WT Harris for .2 miles, make a Left and head North on Highway 21 for 3 miles to Verhoeff Road. Make a Right on Verhoeff Road. Facility is 1/4 mile ahead on the Left. Abundant free parking.
From Statesville: Take I-77South to exit 23, head West on Gilead Rd for .2 miles, make a Right onto Highway 21 for 1 mile to Verhoeff Road. Make a Left on Verhoeff Road. Facility is 1/4 mile ahead on the Left. Abundant free parking.
Event #4 of the Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series and a Cash Prize race for top 3 Male/Female overall.
