SWIM COURSE
Two loops around 500m triangle-shaped course with at least two buoys guiding the way.
XTERRA Portland Sprint race will complete only one loop.
BIKE COURSE
Bike course begins with a short 3 mile mini-loop. Begin by exiting transition area and exiting Boat Ramp C to SW West Shore Drive, a short one mile road section that will bring you to the trail entrance (it will be well marked), where you will drop in to Hagg Lake Trail. This fast single-track section will bring you back to Boat Ramp C, at which time you will cross the entire parking lot to the North end and pick up the trail again. Follow the markings on the trail, as they bring you through some bumpy sections, some quick steep climbs and a few semi-technical root sections. You will then pop back out onto West Shore Drive, turn RIGHT for a short 12 mile uphill ride on the road, before dropping back onto the trail. At this point, you will be riding through a mix of meadows and forest until you are brought back to the road for a quick 14 mile. Once back on the trail, enjoy some fast single track, with a few short climbs thrown in to keep you honest. This will eventually bring you to Boat Ramp A where you will cross the parking lot and connect to the trail on the other side. A short 1 12 mile section of fast single track through old growth forest, will pop you out on a service road. Cross the service road and find the trail next to the fenced compound. This small section will take you to the Dam. CAUTION: Enter the dam with caution. There will be cars on the road. You MUST stay to the right of the cones. The road section will take you about 34 mile to the next trail head where you will drop in for more single-track, full of roller coasters, divots, forest, roots, rocks, and other surprises. Follow markings until you pop out one last time on the road for about 200m. You must stay to the right of the cones. The trail will bring you down through Sain Creek Picnic Area, where the trail head is on the other side. 14 mile left to Boat Ramp C where you can rack your bike and grab your trail shoes.
XTERRA Portland Sprint and Duathlon races will not do the mini-loop. Your race starts heading North to start your fun clockwise ride around the lake.
RUN COURSE
The run course is a 2 loop lollypop shape course. After exiting Transition, runners will proceed across Boat Ramp C where they will connect to the trail on the other side. You follow the same trail as you did on your Mt Bike, until you pop out on West Shore Drive. Turn LEFT, and head up the road to the top of Scotts Hill. Turn into the small parking lot, and follow the volunteers direction to start loop # 2. Follow the same path, again, take a LEFT on West Shore Drive to the top of the hill, proceed into the parking lot, show the volunteers your mark, and they will show you the path that leads you through a rutty grass field. After winding through this you will pop back out onto Boat Ramp C and sprint to the finish line. The course marked in Red is the 2 loop section.
XTERRA Portland Sprint will complete only one loop prior to heading back to Boat Ramp C.
